"The West"

Over the past years, one particular use of the phrase "The West" has been propagated by certain parties.
Popularizing this use may or may not have been a means to an end, may or may not have been bona fide gestures.

There is no such thing as western civilisation
[sup]— Kwame Anthony Appiah · The Guardian · Nov 9, 2016[/sup]

As of typing, this popularized, antagonistic use of "The West" (not Appiah's essay), however, misses central points that are political in nature (occasionally cultural) — the contrary of the Holocaust, the Uyghur situation, modern-day witch hunts (murders/executions), Zoroastrian persecution, apartheid, crackdowns on free/independent press, state-sanctioned bigotry, thug-rule, culture-bulldozing, ..., you name it — things that aren't particularly North/South/East/West.
Anyone can find pride in whatever corner of the globe they call home or associate with, and should feel free to do so, but ? that? Anyone can find shame, too.
If someone cares more about North South East West than authoritarianism regress oppression contra democracy transparency freedom, then they've lost and owe an apology to upcoming generations.
And so...suspicions...stigmatization...slogan'ery...propaganda... Outlines have taken shape.

The requisite exemplification (evidence) rather than putting together yet another narrative:

It's a generalized label for Euro-American, capitalist, industrial and nominally democratic nations, which often, though by no means always, co-operate in international affairs.

Reply to Vera Mont, right, yes, in broad strokes, "the West" is often North America + Europe + Australia + New Zealand.
